Polystyrene (PS) itself is a hard and brittle material, which means that PS molded products are prone to cracking when impacted.
The solution is to add rubber to polystyrene (PS) and polymerize it to produce high impact polystyrene (HIPS).
At this time, impact resistance and gloss depend on the particle size of the precipitated rubber. The larger the particle size, the better the impact resistance, but the gloss will decrease. On the other hand, the smaller the particle size, the higher the gloss, but the impact resistance will decrease.
